14. A tolerant reader with a diagnostic report

Context

Real PDFs are frequently non-conforming, and a strict reader fails where every reader on the market succeeds. The report also lets a caller track the quality of incoming files.

Decision

Cross-reference rebuilding, recovery from malformed objects, and a structured report of anomalies and repairs.

Consequences

Recorded so the choice is not silently revisited.
